Locations
Whether with a glass of wine on the Munotzinne overlooking the Rhine or bathing in one of the historic old town fountains - there is no better way to experience the beautiful city of Schaffhausen.
Past the most beautiful places
Schaffhausen enchants visitors with its beautiful, historic old town and its location on the Rhine. The town's landmark is the Munot fortress.
Schaffhausen old town
The charm of Schaffhausen lies in its medieval, traffic-free old town. 171 bay windows - no other town in Switzerland has more - adorn the medieval façades. In Schaffhausen's beautiful old town, numerous saunas and warm water pools are set up in the centre of the pedestrian zone.
Rhine bank and Lindli
Schaffhausen and the Rhine belong together. The most beautiful spot on the banks of the Rhine is Lindli, the green promenade directly on the Rhine. Here you can also bathe in the cool water, which is why the Lindli is ideal for the sauna marathon.
Rhybadi
Built 157 years ago, this listed building is the largest box bath in Switzerland and invites you to swim in summer and take a sauna in winter. The Rhybadi is home to the Rhybadi association in the winter months Rhysauna, who is now in his fifth season of running a natural, public sauna here with a lot of passion and voluntary work.
After a sauna bath, cooling off in the Rhine is a must! In addition to the Rhysauna, the sauna of the Schaffhausen section of the Friends of Finland Association is also located here.
Munot
The Munot fortress is the town's landmark and was built 400 years ago. The Munot offers a sweeping view over the old town, the Rhine and the wooded hills of the outskirts, which surround Schaffhausen as a green belt.
The Munotzinne is the venue for open-air cinemas, children's parties, dance events and now, in collaboration with the Munot Association the Schaffhausen Sauna Marathon also takes place.
Steel foundry
Where tonnes of steel were once cast, a completely new and modern district has been created. The Steel foundry embodies a new departure on historical ground, an unprecedented combination of old and new, of tradition and modernity.
We will set up a sauna and a hot tub in the 300-metre-long Stadtgarten, the former centre of the industrial area.
Also located in the steel foundry is the 34 °C warm Rheumatism league therapy pool, which is also open to participants in the sauna marathon.
Rhine ship
You can also take a sauna on the Rhine during the Sauna Marathon! On the «Arenenberg» of our event partner URh (Untersee and Rhine Navigation Company) we offer a unique sauna experience: sauna on the ship!
Welcome on board!
Review sauna marathon 2025
Neuhausen am Rheinfall
The Rhine Falls are located in the municipality of Neuhausen am Rheinfall and are the largest waterfall in Europe. We are delighted that the 2026 Saunamarathon will take you to this special natural spectacle and the many highlights surrounding it for the first time.
Rhine Falls
At the Saunamarathon, the Rhine Falls can be marvelled at from a variety of angles. Numerous saunas and warm water pools are operated around the whole natural spectacle.
Probably for the first time in its 15,000-year history, the Rhine Falls can be discovered and experienced in all their splendour in the comfort of a bathrobe.
Rhine Falls basin
A trip on the Rhine Falls is simply a must: We are delighted that Thomas Mändli (Rhyfall Mändli) takes our participants on an unforgettable, exclusive trip across the Rhine Falls basin - in a closed and cosily heated boat, of course.
Schlössli Wörth
One of the most beautiful places for an impressive panorama of the Rhine Falls is the «Schlössli Wörth». On the terrace, you can enjoy the panoramic view while taking a sauna.
The historic «Göthe Hall», where Johann Wolfgang von Goethe stayed in 1797, then serves as a relaxation room.
Laufen Castle
The over 1,100-year-old ’Schloss Laufen« on the Zurich side of the Rhine Falls is another highlight of the Sauna Marathon. Entry to the castle is free and you can also enjoy a sauna and hot tub here.
The visit is rounded off with a glass of delicious «Castle Sparkling Wine» or a «Winter Magic Shot».
Rhyality Immersive Art Hall
The «Rhyality» takes you into fascinating, immersive worlds and immerses you in magical places - an impressive experience. With 28 video projectors, the room surfaces come to life so that guests themselves become part of the cinematic action.
During the sauna marathon, the «Rhyality» becomes a special kind of relaxation room.
SIG bunker from 1939
The sauna marathon also offers a unique journey through time: The almost forgotten air raid bunker of the SIG weapons factory from the Second World War will be made exclusively accessible. There are exciting historical details about the facility to discover on site.
Of course, the sauna in the bunker is also a must. That's right, in the bunker.
Industrial site
Industriplatz is the hub of the Saunamarathon. Your route will always take you through this small, modern square, which is the gateway to the Rhine Falls, the SIG site and the municipality of Neuhausen.
At the same time, the Neuhausen Carnival takes place in the centre of Neuhausen. A colourful hustle and bustle between sauna marathon and local culture could therefore take place here.
